In early 2024, one of Kuwait’s rising café and light-food chains — known for refreshing drinks, a vibrant store atmosphere, and a loyal Gen Z community — reconnected with MaiBao Group for a new phase of packaging innovation.

The brand previously collaborated with MaiBao in 2023. This time, they returned with two key objectives:

  • Refresh part of their packaging portfolio to match their evolving brand identity

  • Introduce new packaging concepts that could help boost summer sales and strengthen customer engagement

Led by Daniel, Senior Project Manager at MaiBaoPak (MBP), the project was supported by a cross-functional F&B packaging engineering and design team. Guided by MaiBao’s “customer-first” philosophy, the team applied a research-driven approach combining market insights, competitor benchmarking, and consumer behavior analysis.

The Challenge: Standing Out in a Dynamic Café Market

Despite their strong growth momentum, the client faced several challenges:

1. Competitors were launching fresher, more engaging packaging

Local cafés had recently introduced highly Instagram-friendly packaging formats that appealed to Gen Z consumers. The client realized their current packaging lacked the visual spark needed for social-media-driven engagement.

2. The summer season was approaching

With Kuwait entering its hottest months, cold beverages would soon dominate sales. The client needed packaging and product ideas capable of generating buzz and attracting new customers.

3. Limited in-house experience combining marketing with packaging strategy

As a young brand, they lacked experience integrating marketing objectives with packaging design — and turned to MaiBao for strategic direction.


MaiBao’s Approach: Insight Before Innovation

1. Immersive brand and market analysis

Daniel and the team conducted an in-depth study of the client’s brand identity, store ambience, product mix, and consumer demographics. They also analyzed competitor packaging trends to understand what resonated with younger customers.

Based on these findings, MaiBao created a tailored packaging upgrade roadmap that balanced aesthetics, durability, cost efficiency, and social-media performance. The client immediately approved the direction.

2. Marketing-aligned seasonal product strategy

MaiBao identified a missing opportunity: seasonal signature drinks.

Inspired by successful campaigns from global café leaders such as Luckin Coffee and Nayuki, MaiBao recommended introducing a “summer special” drink. One standout suggestion was Matcha Coconut Water — a refreshing, health-aligned beverage ideal for Kuwait’s climate.

The client adopted the idea, and the drink quickly became a highlight of their summer menu.

3. Functional innovation in packaging design

In parallel, MaiBao refined the Coffee Dispenser Box through several engineering rounds. Improvements focused on:

  • Enhanced leak resistance

  • Better temperature performance

  • Improved ease of preparation and filling

  • Stronger visual and structural design

The reengineered dispenser box became a key highlight of the client’s upgraded packaging lineup.


The Results: Packaging That Sells — and Tells a Story

1. A modernized, more cohesive product line

The client not only reordered existing products but fully embraced the recommended upgrades, launching four new packaging types:

  • Coffee Dispenser Box for hot takeaway drinks

  • Stand-up pouches for iced beverages

  • U-shaped transparent PET cups for premium drinks

  • Window bakery bags for pastries

2. Stronger consumer engagement and social media buzz

The refreshed packaging and seasonal drink campaign resonated strongly with younger audiences. User-generated content surged on Instagram and TikTok, with customers sharing unboxing videos and aesthetic drink shots.

3. Noticeable sales growth during summer

The café reported a clear increase in summer sales, crediting the synergy between the Matcha Coconut Water launch and the upgraded packaging.

4. A long-term partnership established

Impressed by the results, the café formed a long-term strategic partnership with MaiBaoPak to co-create ongoing seasonal packaging concepts and localized marketing campaigns.
